Celebrating Walker Scobell's Birthday: Percy Jackson Actor's Inescapable Adorable and Witty Sense of Humour | Leisurebyte (2024)

“God! It’s like I traded my brains for those muscles”, sharply remarked a dumbstruck Walker Scobell, playing the perfect younger version of Ryan Reynolds in Netflix’s The Adam Project (2022), and he instantly became one of the most endearing and loved child actors hailing from Hollywood. Having landed his first acting gig in the Shawn Levy directorial sci-fi action comedy film, the now Percy Jackson actor has again donned a 12-year-old character’s shoes for the 2023 Disney+ TV adaptation of Rick Riordan’s first book from the much-loved series that became a laid-back introduction to Greek Mythology for many of us.

Looking back at his first movie with Reynolds, fans can positively confirm that Walker was always meant to play Percy given both (him and the character) of their “sharp sense of humour”, as has often been pointed out by not just the audience, but even the Percy Jackson author himself.

Ironically, Walker playing the child version of Reynolds’ character in The Adam Project is still one of the most loved Hollywood highlights of the past few years, that has a lot of us consistently revisiting the movie’s promotion videos, wherein Scobell had even undertaken the mighty coup of spitting the very R-rated Deadpool 2 monologue, again mirroring Ryan’s self and his iconic deadpan delivery of sarcasm. At this point, we can’t even claim that he’s merely copying the older actor’s style, because it’s equally been established as his own witty display of humour.

We can’t help but go back to all these moments from his debut film, along with the even more satisfying and hilarious moments from the new Percy Jackson TV series on Walker’s birthday. On January 5, 2009, a “Persassy” worthy legend was born, and with already two such commendable works under his belt, we’re intrigued to see how much more cheekiness this star may unleash, in what appears to look like a promising career ahead!

Unmatched Walker Scobell Percy Jackson Moments (So Far)

From quickly switching his demeaning tone to referring to Mr D as “Your Highness”, and actually tripping and falling simply due to his own gravity of clumsiness, Walker’s quips as Percy Jackson are undeniably well-timed and on point. Four episodes have been released so far and each one of them has had at least one such comeback that we’re likely to keep coming back to now that our beloved demigod has finally come to life, quite literally.

(The fact that Walker claims to have been born in a hospital that was right next to a Poseidon statue, again helps assert this factoid). Some of these verbal attacks, reflecting genuine concern in the most Percy-way possible in some cases, hit too hard, that the curious yet already-done-with-him silence from Annabeth (Episode 3) seems an apt response.

Walker Scobell Funny Moments from The Adam Project Movie / Promotions

Watching Walker Scobell in The Adam Project going back and forth with Reynolds (and his persistent reminders that his older self’s choice of weapon was in fact a lightsaber, whether he wanted to admit it or not), making the most of his classic signature one-liners, just further proved that while Ryan can annoy any other actor, including the likes of Hugh Jackman, only he can get back at himself, or at least the embodiment of his younger version can, which as time-travelling permits, is still his own self, treating him with his medicine.

Happy Birthday, Walker Scobell. Here’s to many more years of your delightful snarky comments! (Him knowing and wilfully admitting that the outcome of a fight between Percy Jackson and Harry Potter isn’t even up for a debate is just another reason why we all love him, or at least Percy fans do.)
