As a department leader of the Interastral Peace Corporation, Honkai: Star Rail's Aventurine is an influential person. Although this purple-eyed investor likes to gamble with fate, as an Imaginary 5-star character of the Preservation Path, he makes a reliable defensive unit for your Honkai: Star Rail team.

From the best Light Cones and Relics to the best teams, these are our recommendations for the best Aventurine build, plus everything else you might want to know about Honkai: Star Rail character Aventurine.

How to Get Aventurine

Aventurine’s release date is April 17, the start of Honkai: Star Rail version 2.1, phase 2. Aventurine is an Imaginary character who follows the path of Preservation. As a 5-star character, he’ll be featured on his personal Character Event Warp banner. You can exchange one special star rail pass to get one “warp”; one chance to obtain Aventurine. If you miss his banner, you’ll have to wait for a rerun banner in the future.

Aventurine Abilities

  • Basic Attack: Deals Imaginary DMG equal to 50% of Aventurine’s DEF to a single enemy target.
  • Skill: Provides all allies with a Fortified Wager shield that can block DMG equal to 16% of Aventurine’s DEF plus 80, lasting for 3 turns. When Fortified Wager is gained repeatedly, the Shield effect can stack, up to 200% of the current Shield effect provided by the Skill.
  • Ultimate: Randomly gains 1 to 7 points of Blind Bet. Then inflicts Unnerved on a single target enemy, lasting for 3 turns, and deals Imaginary DMG equal to 162% of Aventurine’s DEF to the single target enemy. When an ally hits an Unnerved enemy target, the CRIT DMG dealt increases by 9%.
  • Talent: For any single ally with Fortified Wager, their Effect Resistance increases by 25% and when they get attacked, Aventurine gains one point of Blind Bet. When Aventurine has Fortified Wager, he can resist Crowd Control debuffs. This effect can trigger again after 2 turns. Aventurine additionally gains 1 point of Blind Bet after getting attacked. Upon reaching 7 points of Blind Bet, Aventurine consumes the 7 points to launch a 7-hit follow-up attack, with each hit dealing Imaginary DMG equal to 12% of Aventurine’s DEF to a single random enemy. Blind Bet is capped at 10 points.
  • Technique: Activate one of the following effects: there is a chance for DEF to increase by 24%, there is a high chance for DEF to increase by 36%, and there is a small chance for DEF to increase by 60%. If this Technique is used repeatedly, the effect with the highest buff value is retained. Upon starting the next battle, increases all allies’ DEF by the corresponding value, lasting for 3 turns.

As a Preservation character, Aventurine is equipped with a shield ability; upon using his Skill, all allies are protected against a certain amount of incoming damage, scaling with Aventurine’s Defense. Thanks to Aventurine’s Talent, all allies also gain Effect Resistance from the shield, but only Aventurine himself is protected against crowd control.

Every time Aventurine himself or an ally with the Fortified Wager shield is attacked, Aventurine gains a stack of Blind Bet. When he’s accumulated seven points of Blind Bet, he’ll launch a powerful follow-up attack against a random enemy, dealing damage that scales with his Defense stat. Thanks to this combination of defensive and offensive abilities, your Aventurine build may lean more towards a supportive or a sub-DPS role (more on that in the Aventurine build guide below).

Aventurine’s Ultimate grants one to seven stacks of Blind Bet before dealing Defense-based Imaginary damage and placing the Unnerved effect on the enemy. Whenever an ally hits this Unnerved target, the Critical Damage of the attack will improve, which means that Aventurine’s kit works great together with Critical Damage dealers.

Aventurine’s Basic Attack isn’t very important, but you can use it to deal minor damage and stack up on Skill Points as long as the team has their Fortified Wager shield up. Aventurine’s Technique is a good way to get a high Defense bonus, but take a good look at your current number of Technique Points before spending them (as you may need several to obtain the highest bonus).

Aventurine Traces

  • Leverage (bonus ability Ascension 2): For every 100 of Aventurine's DEF that exceeds 1600, increases his own CRIT Rate by 2%, up to a maximum increase of 48%.
  • Hot Hand (bonus ability Ascension 4): When battle starts, grants all allies a Fortified Wager shield, whose Shield effect is equal to 100% of the one provided by the Skill, lasting for 3 turns.
  • Bingo! (bonus ability Ascension 6): After an ally with Fortified Wager launches a follow-up attack, Aventurine accumulates 1 Blind Bet point. This effect can trigger up to 3 times, and its trigger count resets at the start of Aventurine's turn. After Aventurine launches his Talent's follow-up attack, provides all allies with a Fortified Wager that can block DMG equal to 7% of Aventurine's DEF plus 96, and additionally grants a Fortified Wager that can block DMG equal to 7% of Aventurine's DEF plus 96 to the ally with the lowest Shield effect, lasting for 3 turns.

The list above shows all of Aventurine’s passive Trace Abilities. Leverage will help you get enough Critical Rate on your Aventurine build, while Hot Hand guarantees team protection upon starting a new battle, which may help your Skill Point management as you don’t need to use Aventurine’s Skill right away. Aventurine’s Bingo! Trace Ability is even better as it helps him gather Blind Bet stacks and provides additional layers of Fortified Wager, but beware that you’ll need allies who perform follow-up attacks to fully benefit from this ability.

Aventurine’s minor Trace stats upgrade his Defense, Imaginary Damage, and Effect Resistance, all of which are very important. If you need to prioritize one, however, go for Defense.

Finally, when upgrading the active abilities for your Aventurine build, focus on his Skill and Ultimate; the Skill Trace Levels improve the amount of damage blocked by the Fortified Wager shield, while the Ultimate Trace Levels improve the damage dealt as well as the Critical Damage bonus granted against the Unnerved target. Next, upgrade the Talent, which improves Aventurine’s follow-up attack damage and the amount of Effect Resistance offered to the team. Only upgrade his Basic Attack when the rest is taken care of.

Take a look at our Honkai: Star Rail Aventurine materials overview to help you upgrade his Trace Levels!

Aventurine Eidolon Levels

Eidolon LevelNameEffect
1Prisoner's Dilemma Increases CRIT DMG by 20% for allies with Fortified Wager. After using the Ultimate, provides all allies with a Fortified Wager shield, whose Shield effect is equal to 100% of the one provided by the Skill, lasting for 3 turns.
2Bounded Rationality When using the Basic ATK, reduces the target's All-Type RES by 12% for 3 turns.
3Droprate Maxing Ultimate Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Basic ATK Lv. +1, up to a maximum of Lv. 10.
4Unexpected Hanging Paradox When triggering his Talent's follow-up attack, first increases Aventurine's DEF by 40% for 2 turns, and additionally increases the Hits Per Action for his Talent's follow-up attack by 3.
5Ambiguity Aversion Skill Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Talent Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15.
6Stag Hunt Game For every ally with a Shield, the DMG dealt by Aventurine increases by 50%, up to a maximum of 150%.

If you’re short on Stellar Jade, rest assured: an Eidolon Level 0 Aventurine build can still be amazing. That said, the team-wide Critical Damage bonus granted by Eidolon Level 1 is certainly helpful, Eidolon Level 4 makes his follow-up attacks much stronger, and Eidolon Level 6 will turn your Aventurine build into a true sub-DPS. Eidolon Level 2 offers a nice debuff ability and gives the Basic Attack more purpose.

Instead of upgrading his Eidolon Level, you can try to get Aventurine’s signature Light Cone instead; Inherently Unjust Destiny.

Concert for Two

✧✧✧✧

Increases the wearer's DEF by 16-32%. For every on-field character that has a Shield, the DMG dealt by the wearer increases by 4-8%.Gacha weapon bannerImproves both Defense and Aventurine's damage.

The best Light Cone for your Aventurine build is the 5-star Inherently Unjust Destiny, as it’s specifically designed for Aventurine’s kit. He’ll easily trigger the Critical Damage boost by placing shields, the debuff linked to the follow-up attack is always welcome, and the amazing Defense bonus will benefit all his abilities. The 5-star Light Cone Moment of Victory is a great substitute though, as it also offers an equally impressive Defense increase.

As for the best 4-star Light Cone for Aventurine, both Destiny's Threads Forewoven and Concert for Two are great options. The first can be bought in the Forgotten Hall shop, so you don't need lucky gacha pulls to obtain it. Beware that Destiny's only improves your Aventurine build's damage though, not the shield ability. If you want to strengthen his support role, Concert for Two is better as it also grants Defense.

Best Aventurine Relics

Relic Name/RarityRelic Set EffectHow to ObtainNotes
Knight of Purity Palace

- Cavern Relic

2pc: Increases DEF by 15%.

4pc: Increases the max DMG that can be absorbed by the Shield created by the wearer by 20%.

Cavern of Corrosion - Path of Holy HymnBest defensive option.
Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters

- Cavern Relic

2pc: Increases DMG dealt to enemies with debuff by 12%.

4pc: Increases CRIT Rate by 4%. The wearer deals 8%-12% increased CRIT DMG to enemies with at least 2-3 debuffs. After the wearer inflicts a debuff on enemy targets, the aforementioned effects increase by 100%, lasting for 1 turn.

Cavern of Corrosion - Path of DreamdiveBest offensive option, but beware of the debuff requirement!
Broken Keel

- Planar Ornament

2pc: Increases the wearer's Effect Resistance by 10%. When the wearer's Effect Resistance is at 30% or higher, all allies' Critical Damage increases by 10%.Simulated UniverseTeam-wide Critical Damage bonus.
Inert Salsotto

- Planar Ornament

2pc: Increases the wearer's Critical Rate by 8%. When the wearer's current Critical Rate reaches 50% or higher, the wearer's Ultimate and follow-up attack damage increases by 15%.Simulated UniverseBest option for sub DPS focus.

The best Relic set for Aventurine is Knight of Purity Palace - as long as you're focused on his shield ability. If you'd rather improve his hybrid role as a support and sub DPS, Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters is the better option as it improves his Critical Rate and Critical Damage. Be careful when using this Relic set for your Aventurine build though, as the target must suffer from three or more debuffs to gain the full set effect. You'll need allies with debuff abilities to make this Relic set reliable.

If you don't have either Relic set yet, you can use a variety of 2-piece placeholders; Ashblazing Grand Duke (better follow-up damage), Wastelander of Banditry Desert (better Imaginary damage), and Messenger Traversing Hackerspace (better Speed) are all great substitutes.

Aventurine's Talent effect and his minor Trace bonus stats grant him more than 30% Effect Resistance whenever he's shielded, thus activating the Broken Keel effect. The 10% Critical Damage bonus makes this the best Planar Ornament for a more supportive Aventurine build. Alternatively, you can use Inert Salsotto if you prefer a more offensive Aventurine build, as this grants him more Critical Rate as well as better Ultimate and follow-up attack damage.

Best Stats

  • Body: DEF%, Critical Damage
  • Feet: Speed, DEF%
  • Planar Sphere: DEF%
  • Link Rope: DEF%
  • Sub stats: DEF%, Critical Damage, Critical Rate, Speed

Both Aventurine's shield ability and his damage scale with his Defense stat, which is why you should try to get it as a main Relic stat on the Body, Planar Sphere, and Link Rope slots. Although most Aventurine builds will benefit from as much Defense as possible, the number to aim for is 4,000 since that activates the maximum critical rate bonus from Aventurine's Leverage Trace Ability, thus granting him a 48% critical rate boost (every 100 points over 1,600 is 2,400, so 2% Critical Rate per 100 points grants the full 48% bonus). Naturally, it doesn't hurt to be a little bit above or below this number.

Add the default 5% Critical Rate to that, plus as many relic sub-stats with Critical Rate as possible, and your Aventurine build should be able to hit over 50% Critical Rate. Aventurine should stick with the usual 1:2 Critical Rate/Damage ratio, which is why his signature Light Cone is so great as it immediately adds 40% Critical Damage to the 50% default stat. Alternatively, you can swap the DEF% Relic for a Critical Damage Relic on the Body slot, but beware that this will improve your Aventurine's sub DPS role at the cost of shielding.

As for Speed, remember that the sweet spots for extra turns are 120 and 134 Speed. It's useful to hit at least 120, as this will provide lots of Skill Points and help Aventurine trigger his Ultimate faster. If you don't have a Speed Relic for your Aventurine build, go for DEF% instead.

Best Teams for Aventurine

As a shield provider, Aventurine fits almost any team composition in Honkai: Star Rail. That said, some allies benefit more from his abilities than others. To sum up: the best Aventurine team compositions should include allies who don't want to get hit (excluding those who deal more damage as their HP is depleted!), allies who perform follow-up attacks (Blind Bet will stack faster thanks to the Bingo Trace Ability), allies who deal high Critical Damage (to benefit from the Unnerved debuff), and allies who offer team-wide buffs (to help both the main DPS but also Aventurine). Allies who scale with Defense would also benefit from Aventurine's Technique, which improves their Defense stat for the first three turns.

Here are two examples of the best Aventurine teams:

Aventurine Follow-Up Team

Shield provider/Sub DPS – AventurineDPS - Topaz and NumbyDPS - Dr. RatioBuff Support - Ruan Mei

advertisem*nt

The idea behind this Aventurine team is to constantly trigger Aventurine’s follow-up attacks by building his Blind Bet stacks. Topaz and Numby and Dr. Ratio share the DPS role, where they focus on using their follow-up attacks to generate Blind Bet stacks through Aventurine’s Bingo Trace Ability. When he’s not performing his follow-up attacks, Aventurine must ensure that his allies are protected by the Fortified Wager shield. Ruan Mei is the perfect buff support for this team as she provides team-wide attack bonuses to benefit her three (sub) DPS teammates. Ruan Mei’s Ultimate will also help to stack debuffs on opponents, which is necessary for Dr. Ratio to consistently use his follow-up attack.

Aventurine Debuff Team

Shield provider/sub DPS - AventurineDPS – AcheronDebuff/Sub DPS - Silver WolfDebuff/Sub DPS - Pela

This Aventurine team is a good example of what a team composition without follow-up DPS characters would look like. Acheron is the main DPS, while Silver Wolf and Pela deal damage to a lesser extent. The latter two, together with Aventurine, apply debuffs on their opponents to help Acheron gain Slashed Dream (to charge her Ultimate) and Crimson Knot (to deal more damage with her Ultimate). These debuffs will also improve the damage dealt by the rest of the team, and on top of that, this debuff-focused team makes it much easier to run Aventurine with the Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters Relic set as his allies will place the required debuffs on his opponents.
